THE NEW IT COLOURS

BY CHRISTINE AMEFIAM

A new season equals new styles, new colours and new trends “to be followed”.

This new season’s “so-called” predictions for fashion were already seen during Gucci’s pop-up this June in Milan and days before in New York with the (An icon is an icon) Ancora logo, gifting guests their posters, postcards, coffees and flowers wrapped in a burgundy paper. The colour Burgundy or Cherry red was already trending during the beginning of Winter 2023 with brands such as Mango and Zara with their cherry red heels but were not as popular as they are right now.

For this season the colour burgundy or cherry red isn’t the only tone, other two equable shades were added to this autumn list; Khaki green or Olive green and Brown or Caramel.

These are the three main dominating colours. But what about textures? The most famous is with COS (a fashion brand part of the H&M Group. Parent company H&M owns retail brands including H&M, Other Stories, Monki, and Arket) that have created a memorable bag with its texture, the Studio Bowling Dark Brown Suede Bag. The Suede material has got more and more recognition and visibility this past month due to its sophisticated look and shape, also we can perceive this material in other brands such as other stories, JW PEI and Coach.

Is the animalier trend going to fade away after the end of this summer? The answer is, no. The leopard print can be nicely matched with the colour burgundy, the darker version of the Spring red colour (red tights or red ballerinas) we all have seen everywhere in these past months.

And what about the old money trend? is it still on the rise? Although some people may contradict the fact that the old money look isn’t a trend but a status symbol for affluent people. To tell the truth, this affirmation isn’t wrong at all some people do dress as old money because it is trendy and not because they truly share those senses of style and harmonious combinations. However, something people do mistake a lot is calling any minimalistic look old money or quiet luxury; these people may only have dressed with a minimalistic sens but since it is similar to the old money look it might be mistaken for it.

A true motto that I say to myself every single time, is to try and not get aligned with what everybody is doing. Will I also wear something with the colour Burgundy or Cherry red this Autumn? Yes, of course, and I’ve been doing that since last year but one thing is for sure I will not stop doing or wearing something because it is not in vogue any more. After all, one true style is making it timeless each time, every time even if it isn’t “à la mode” anymore.
